some pics from our recent trip above Lake of the Angels & Mount Stone. the Putvin trail is intense - hence no photos of going up or coming down...to busy keeping the sweat out of my eyes and my knee caps in place.

just above the potholes and right below Lake of Angels

we are welcomed by a family of mountain goats

bob's way of telling me...."still going up"

Lake of the Angels

about another 45 minutes above the lake to a nice ridge right under Mt. Stone

Bob's water gettin' outfit

we all scramble over to an awesome watering hole to load up

looking up at camp and Mt. Stone which seems teeny from this angle

a backpack from my youth makes a great little summit pack, name still inscribed!
this is the same pack that Bob took to the summit of the Grand - nice LLBean.

bob n' bear can

having dinner prior to sunset, looking into the heart of the Olympics

our standard first nights meal, pesto made with basil from the garden and cheese tortellini

daphne and her abundant energy

coffee time and time to shew the goats away from camp

this one was always watching us

making breakfast...for the first time, NOT bagels but Scooters = tortillas, black beans, eggs, salsa & cheese

there was so much wonderful snow to play on, so we chose the ridge above the lake to climb.

yup, still watching

Mt. Stone and our camp below it, snow field we were climbing

half way up and my pagers still blowing up

nice.

small ledge in the shade to hydrate, feeling happy about crampons

climbing dog

heading up for lunch...

oh, so are they

looking down at Lake of the Angels

heading over to the ridge, beyond you can faintly make out Mount Washington....see the nose? It's a profile of Washington, nose pointing up.

lunch spot be careful

looking south from the ridge to Mount Cruiser

thanks Jennifer!

daph & Mount Stone

taking a goat nap, which means closing your eyes for 2 minutes

we were really enjoying our little lunch spot until some dark clouds started pushing up onto the ridge, so we decided to descend.

me crossing the snow field with encroaching clouds above

very fresh mountain lion tracks, but no sighting

afternoon retreat from the mosquitoes inside the tent - now i recall why we generally don't backpack in the summer months bbbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

sunburnt and tired
