PTAC 2nd overnight LENAS

the plan: depart sunday night with dinner at 6pm. arrive at lower Lena trailhead by 7:30. hike in 4 miles to lower Lena Lake, set up camp for the night. the following day, hike to the upper Lena lake, hike down, pack up, hike down again, make it home for a night cap.
since the daylight was fading, i didn't take photos of the lower lena hike. but the next morning after an awesome evening of bonfire, bottles of wine, jesse's surprise bottled beer he snuck up, bread, cheese, chocolate....was this shot.
ben and jesse making "scooters" for breakfast, jesse sneaks off into the tent, hmmm, then ben sneaks off into the tent...i sit sipping coffee. they emerge wearing this?!?! at least i had a skirt on for the occasion. thanks dapper dudes.

the "scooter" is every PTAC member's favorite breakfast dish from the Blue Moose Cafe. here jesse and ben replicate spot on with scrambled eggs, black beans, sour cream, salsa and fresh tortillas. yes please.
first meadow crossing to the upper Lena Lake

the majority of the trail to the upper lake is literally walking up a gravelly creek of flowing water and ankle twisting steps. we finally hit snow as it gets even steeper.

first snow field
engorged lena creek flowing fast under 5 - 6 feet of snow

we didn't bring a map, and with the snow had no real idea if we were in the right direction. but up we go in search of the lake

and up...

we didn't succeed in finding the lake, although i'm sure we were close.
glissading back down the snow was great, tuna melts at the camp good, but being with friends, sharing stories and exploring...the BEST. thanks guys:)
