early bird indeed

peninsula daily news published a really great, lengthy article about Bob's Bagels last wednesday. Unavailable online, so here is a photo which is from the front page of the paper. what do you do when a hobby becomes a small town's obsession? It seems to go hand in hand with the idea that when something is sold out...people tend to want it even more. After learning our lesson the first time we got burned after our local press release, we prepared ourselves for the onslaught of bagelers to come after this article came out. At least we thought we did. Bob in his amazing ability to rise early, was up at 3 a.m. both yesterday and today ~ cranking out over 200 bagels, the most to date. I strolled in a few hours later to help with the carple tunnel creating kneading sessions. Against all preparation we sold out even faster than last week, turning lots of sad faces away at 9:30 this morning. At one point we had all 18 bagels in the oven spoken for ~ 10 minutes out. People grappling over one another at the window calling out dibs on the goods in the oven ~ unbelievable!
With our 2 month road trip rapidly approaching i am fearing in the back of my mind what it could do to the growing legacy of Bob's Bagels? We have the co-op literally accosting us each day, managers at the bagel window, wanting to order wholesale...daily. Along with some other local restaurants.
I feel in an eternal state of bewilderment, as i watch this unfold with very little work, yet so much demand. How to pull it all together??? Time will tell & i guess until we see the light we will continue to better our community, one bagel at a time!
